As of August 2018, 3,440 previously untested sexual assault kits have been submitted for DNA testing under the Michigan SAKI.The Michigan Department of State Police has used SAKI funding to achieve several goals and milestones: These monies is also being used to fund the enhancement of a sexual assault evidence kit tracking system for victims and the outsourcing of DNA analysis of unsubmitted SAKs found during the inventory process. In collaboration with the Prosecuting Attorney's Association of Michigan (PAAM) and Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board, the Michigan Department of State Police is using SAKI grant funds to conduct a statewide inventory of unsubmitted (Sexual Assault Kits) SAKs in law enforcement custody, provide training to law enforcement and prosecutors, and assist with victim services in jurisdictions with a high volume of unsubmitted sexual assault evidence kits. Medical facilities, law enforcement agencies, laboratories, prosecuting attorneys, and survivors all have access to Track-Kit™. Track-Kit™ provides the ability to track the status and location of a sexual assault evidence kit. Track-Kit™ ensures that statutory requirements are met under the Sexual Assault Evidence Submission Act (the Act), MCL 752.931 et seq., through an annual compliance report. The developers of Track-Kit™ were the successful bidder. After the recommendations were made, there was an extensive proposal process. Michigan acquired Track-Kit™ to implement the 2016 recommendations of the Michigan Sexual Assault Evidence Kit Tracking and Reporting Commission.
